First edition, first printing. 8vo. 238pp + illustrated frontispiece. First issue faux snake-skin patterned boards with gilt titles as issued. Pictorial dustwrapper by Thomas Derrick. Housed in a bespoke black quarter Morocco clamshell box with gilt titles and raised bands. A near fine copy with clean boards and very bright gilt. The merest hint of spotting to edges & prelims. The first collection of short stories by Waugh many of which came to be the inspiration for his novels. "Mr Loveday..." is a black comedy on the theme of madness.
