Chapman and Hall, 1936.
First edition, first printing. 8vo. 238pp + illustrated frontispiece. First issue faux snake-skin patterned boards with gilt titles as issued. Pictorial dustwrapper by Thomas Derrick. Housed in a bespoke black quarter Morocco clamshell box with gilt titles and raised bands. A near fine copy with clean boards and very bright gilt. The merest hint of spotting to edges & prelims. Internally clean and crisp with sharp edges to leaves. The very good+ dustwrapper has a couple of short closed tears/tiny marks & a nick to the top right corner of back panel. Some light dustiness to panels but importantly none of the usual heavy toning to spine. Orginal price of 7s6dnet to front flap. An attractive copy.
The first collection of short stories by Waugh.
