Allen & Unwin, 1955.
First Editions. "Fellowship.. "- Fourth Impression in Fourth Impression wrapper, "Two Towers.." - Second Impression in third Impression wrapper (quite common for publisher at the time to put whatever wrapper is at hand in the warehouse), "The Return..." - First Impression in first Impression wrapper with no reviews on rear flap. This is an original set & not a marriage of odd volumes. All have the same ownership name (or very small contemporary inscription dated 1955) to endpaper confirming this - also uniform wear/toning to wrappers. All maps smart & present. Small marks to front board of "Return..". No chipping or splitting to cloth & internally very clean and fresh with no splitting to endpapers. Nicking to spine ends of wrappers & toning/fading to spine. Some light chipping to spine ends of "Fellowship" & small chip to bottom left spine corner of "Return.." with small selective tape strengthening to verso of both wrapppers. "Two Towers" with no loss at all. "Fellowship.." is priceclipped o/w other wrappers with original 21s net price.
A completely original and unrestored set of Lord of the Rings from the first year of publication and almost as near as you can get to a first impression set with an original one owner provenance complete with the second impression of "Two Towers" & first impression of "The Return of the King"
