Olympia & York Canary Wharf Ltd / London Docklands Development Corporation, 1988.
First & only edition of this collective exhibition catalogue that established the Y.B.A (Young British Artist) school - orchestrated & curated by Damien Hirst [23 years old] who also exhibited at the exhibition. 4to. Softcover. Bronzed covers with green & white title. A fine copy. Appears unread. Lightest wear only & none of the usual laminate peel. A superior copy of this very rare catalogue.
Sixteen artists contributed including Mat Collishaw, Sarah Lucas, Ian Davenport, Gary Hume, Michael Landy, Fiona Rae & of course Damien Hirst. Orchestrated by Hirst who then was a student at Goldsmiths College of Art. Assisted by Luigi Scalera, an architecture graudate who worked for London Docklands Corporation who located a derelict building for the exhibition- "...its presentation was smart and immaculate....reminiscent of..Charles Saatchi's first gallery". It was here that the works of the future Y.B.A came to the attention of Charles Saatchi and the rest is history. Ben Luke, art critic - "Freeze, one of the most influential shows in British art history". The "kickstart" exhibition for Damien Hirst's career.
