George Silverman's Explanation [in the Atlantic Monthly Vol. 27 nos. 123-125].

Ticknor & Reeves, Boston, 1868.

First edition first printing [published in the UK many years later]. Bound with original covers [front & back]. 8vo. Quarter blue calf gilt with red title label to spine; blue buckram boards. A near fine/fine copy. Some lightening to spine & mild wear to extremities. Internally very crisp & fresh indeed with no wear to leaves or covers. No inscriptions. A lovely copy of the true first printing of this Charles Dickens story which is normally found in a sorry state.

Written in the first person, George tells us about his awful childhood and life after his parent's death. A psychological story focusing on oppression and accusation and the difficulty of living an everyday life after a bleak start.
